Snapcart’s Teresa Condicion speaks up on consumer trends, success, and everything in-between

Everybody loves free stuff, and Teresa Condicion knows this. Together with her partner Reynazran Royono, they’ve found a way to turn crumpled up receipts into a data gold mine — with just a sprinkle of faith, trust and a handy little smartphone app called Snapcart. By incentivising users to snap photos of their receipts and uploading it onto Snapcart in exchange for cash backs and rewards, it’s a win-win situation for both brick-and-mortar retailers and brands, as well as their customers.

Still, it’s always good to have an excuse to talk to Teresa. She refuses the classification of ‘experienced’, despite being the co-founder and current Chief Data Officer of Snapcart, and having previously spent 17 years in a thriving corporate career at Procter & Gamble (P&G). Her brainchild is booming, yes, but Teresa believes that there is a lot more to be done.

But what exactly keeps the co-founder of a booming startup going on a daily basis? Teresa accredits it to her own unique style of working. Yes, she’s heard the typical founder’s tale of endless work, massive sleep deprivation and untold sacrifices. But her fundamental belief in one’s own balance and structure is what keeps her life functioning well.

Her personal take on how to thrive at life breaks away from the usual world-weary manner, and is delivered with refreshing insight. Call it the lime sorbet of advice if you must — but Teresa’s advice surpasses charming, and transforms into something else altogether.

ENABLING A WORLD OF ME: Snapcart wants to use data and intelligence to provide value to both our users and our partner brands, by enabling a more intelligent understanding of shoppers in order to better meet their needs. To make the connection between brands and shoppers more seamless and effective by using state of the art analytics.

TO SOLVE PROBLEMS NOT SOLVED BEFORE: I love learning new things, and the startup world offers immense opportunities for that. Everyday at a startup is a new question: How do you teach the machine to read receipts that often have poor image quality? How do you create an analytics dashboard that is delivered in real time? I often wake up excited, like a little girl who has a new puzzle every day. While it is many times challenging, it is definitely a lot of fun!

PERSONALISATION THE MOST INTERESTING CONSUMER TREND: Gone are the days of ‘one-size-fits-all-type’ communication. Digitisation means that consumers can now ask for a product crafted for ME, delivered to ME, and made known to ME at MY own time and my preferred channels.

HAPPY PEOPLE ARE MORE SUCCESSFUL: Snapcart abides by an informal, flexible and fun way of working. We find reasons to celebrate often, because what you create is an environment where people feel free, trusted, rewarded, and happy. And that’s when they shine.

FAVOURITE QUOTE: “Sow a thought, and you reap an act; Sow an act, and you reap a habit; Sow a habit, and you reap a character; Sow a character, and you reap a destiny.” You are what you think and repeatedly do. I learned that the small, persistent changes I made on my every day had the most profound impact on my life — whether that be exercising daily, waking up early, reading for 30 minutes, or coding for an hour a day.

VISION IS AN ENTREPRENEUR’S MOST IMPORTANT TRAIT: It’s vision that differentiates a great entrepreneur from the average ones — an ability to imagine a future that is immensely different from current reality. You’ll see that in Steve Jobs, in Elon Musk, in Henry Ford.

Snapcart is a member of LEVEL3 — a collaborative innovation workspace that brings Unilever, startups, and entrepreneurs together to deliver meaningful business impact.
